Free DAA Practice Questions & Test: all six sections
Updated 1 July 2026 · 5 min read
The quickest way to feel ready for the Defence Aptitude Assessment (DAA) is to try the real thing in miniature: work through a handful of realistic questions and see the format for yourself. That is exactly what our free practice offers. You can attempt sample questions across all six DAA sections, and every question comes with a worked answer that explains not just what the answer is but why — so each attempt teaches you something rather than just testing you.
Free practice for every section
The DAA is made up of six timed, multiple-choice sections, and our free samples cover all of them. Trying a few questions from each is the fastest way to get familiar with how the questions are phrased, what the answer options look like and how quickly you need to move. You do not need to sign up or pay to start — just open a section and begin.
- Verbal reasoning — you read a short passage and decide what can and cannot be concluded from it, sticking strictly to what the text supports.
- Numerical reasoning — mental arithmetic and number problems using fractions, percentages, ratios and data, all without a calculator.
- Work rate — fast pattern-matching and rule-following against the clock, testing speed and accuracy under pressure.
- Spatial reasoning — rotating shapes, folding nets into 3D objects and picturing how things fit together.
- Mechanical comprehension — everyday physics such as gears, levers, pulleys and forces, reasoned through from diagrams.
- Electrical comprehension — basic circuits, current, and how series and parallel arrangements behave.
You can jump into any single section or browse all practice tests in one place. If you are unsure where your weak spots are, a quick pass through each section will show you fast.
Why worked answers matter
Doing questions is only half the value; understanding your mistakes is the other half. Every free question in our bank comes with a full explanation, so when you get something wrong you can see the reasoning that leads to the correct choice. Reviewing why an answer is right teaches far more than simply grinding through more questions, and it stops you repeating the same errors on test day.
Practise under timed conditions
Familiarity with the questions is a great start, but the DAA is a test of speed as well as accuracy. Each section is timed separately, and some — work rate in particular — give you very little time per question. Once you are comfortable with a section's format, try it against the clock so you learn to keep moving, make quick decisions and avoid getting stuck on any single question. A useful habit is to answer everything you can quickly first, then return to anything tricky, so you never leave an easy mark unclaimed because time ran out.
For a fuller revision plan built around this kind of practice, see our guide on how to prepare for the DAA.
Going beyond the free samples
The free questions are designed to get you familiar with the format and confident in each section. If you want more volume — a larger question bank and full timed mock tests that mirror the real sitting end to end — that is available too. But you can get a great deal of value from the free samples alone, so there is no need to spend anything before you have tried them and seen how you get on.
Start now
The best moment to start is before the format feels unfamiliar. Pick a section, work through a few free questions, read the worked answers and build from there. When you are ready, move on to timed runs across all practice tests so nothing about the DAA catches you by surprise.

Frequently asked questions
Are the DAA practice questions free?
Yes. You can try free sample questions across all six DAA sections, each with a worked answer, without signing up or paying. A larger question bank and full timed mock tests are also available if you want more.
Which sections do the free practice questions cover?
All six DAA sections: verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, work rate, spatial reasoning, mechanical comprehension and electrical comprehension. You can practise each one individually.
Are these the official DAA questions?
No. These are original practice questions written to mirror the style and format of the real DAA. They are not the official test questions, and forcesready.co.uk is independent of the RAF, the Royal Navy and the Ministry of Defence.
What is the fastest way to prepare for the DAA?
Trying realistic sample questions is the quickest way to get familiar with the format. Attempt a few from each of the six sections, read the worked answers to understand your mistakes, then repeat under timed conditions.
Should I practise under timed conditions?
Yes. Each DAA section is timed separately and some, like work rate, give very little time per question. Once you know a section's format, practise it against the clock so you learn to keep moving and avoid getting stuck.
